Unique villa set in the spectacular Andalucian countryside close to the white village of Casarabonela, yet only 40 minutes from Malaga airport and within 45 minutes of the beaches of the Costa del Sol

Cortijo el Chaparral is an imposing and unique villa set in the spectacular Andalucian countryside close to the white village of Casarabonela, yet only 40 minutes from Malaga airport and within 45 minutes of the beaches of the Costa del Sol.

The property stands in a plot of 30,000 sq m, planted with ancient oil-producing olive trees and has a large, well established garden. The land is registered as a Finca Ecologica, meaning the olive oil produced on the Cortijo is classed as Organic. There is certification to this effect and any additional trees, either olives, avocadoes or other produce will also benefit from this classification.

The Cortijo is reached from the main Alozaina road by a 500 m long concrete road to the long concrete drive leading to the electric gates of the property. The Cortijo was built by the present owners in 2004, incorporating the best of Andaluz tradition with practical modern features including central heating, air-conditioning and double glazed windows and doors all with anti sun bronze glass and laminated and toughened glass throughout.

It is built around a traditional cloistered courtyard with a fountain and Arabic inspired water feature. A tower of Moorish design rises above the double doors into the entrance foyer with a tiled facade and stained glass windows. Inside a circular mosaic floor is only one of the features of this unique home, all the floors are fully tiled with different coloured tiles and the roof is tiled with antique tiles and all the ridges are finished with traditional blue and white ceramic ridge tiles.

All rooms on the ground floor are reached by a corridor that surrounds the courtyard. There are French doors and large windows on all the walls of this corridor with views of the courtyard and this allows the light to flood into the hallway. There is also a cloakroom near the front entrance with wash basin and WC.

The lounge is south facing with very large picture windows facing over the pool area and the valley, French doors lead to the courtyard and the garden. There is a separate quiet area and the lounge is wired for surround sound and TV. There is a satellite system installed with flat screen TVs in the dining room and the lounge. In the south wall there is an electric flame effect fire, and there are also radiators and air conditioning fitted. The aircon units in the lounge and dining room are inverters so could be used for heating as well as cooling.

There are French doors from the lounge into the fully fitted kitchen that has ample cupboards and includes a microwave, oven, granite tops with sink unit and waste disposal unit, hob with extractor fan and an American fridge freezer with ice maker. There is an air conditioning unit/inverter fitted as well as a radiator and a window hatch opening into the dining room. The dining room has west facing windows and a large pair of double glazed French doors opening onto the south lawn of the house.

Beside the kitchen is a utility room fitted with cupboard units, a sink, washing machine and dryer. Next to the utility room there is a lockable store fitted with wine racks and shelving, a plant room with water softener and oil fired boiler for the heating. The property also has a large double garage.

The Cortijo has six double bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms. On the ground floor there are 4 bedrooms, one of which is a mini suite and all are doubles with baths, showers and WC. One bedroom however has only a shower; all are air conditioned except one and all have radiators fitted. The ground floor bedrooms have ceiling fans and dimmers on the lighting which is to northern European standards.

The master bedroom on the first floor is a suite with two fitted wardrobes one of which is a large walk-in. The bathroom is fully tiled and has a bath as well as a separate power shower, a huge lighted mirror, wash basin with marble tops and comprehensive cupboards, together with under floor heating. There are dimmers on the lighting, which is to northern European standards. There are three terraces facing east, west, and south which complete this suite.

The other suite on the first floor has a similar comprehensive bathroom and lighting to the master bedroom. There is a small terrace facing south overlooking the courtyard and the valley and a larger one facing south and west there is also a terrace on the north side. These two bedrooms are reached by a tower staircase with stained glass windows.

Outside the Cortijo has several terraces. On the same level as the main house there is an entertainment area that has a granite topped bar with a beer pump that serves up ice cold beer, a drinks fridge and a large dining area under a wisteria and grape vine canopy with a marble topped table that can seat over 20 people.

On a lower level there is a wood fired pizza oven, also with a granite topped table and seats for 10 people, this area has a collapsible umbrella. The whole of the entertainment area of the Cortijo faces south over the Guadalhorce Valley and from the terraces it is possible to see the Mediterranean and Malaga.

The magnificent infinity edge swimming pool overlooks the valley with spectacular views, it has a circular children’s pool with a slide into the main pool. The pool is surrounded with terraces, many umbrellas and recliners and on one side is a shaded pergola. The pool area is completed by a gym with several fitness items, a changing room with wash basin, WC, a shower next to the gym and the whole area is completed by the sauna.

Additional Outbuildings contain gardening tool stores, pump room, and 10,000 litre standby drinking water deposit. A 20KVA generator is also wired into the house in the event of power failures. The garden is watered by an automatic irrigation system fed by an ancient Asecia irrigation system originally set up by the Romans; Chaparral gets 8 hours of water a week that feeds a 100,000 litre tank under one of the terraces.

Historical interest is maintained by a Roman cistern discovered and restored in the grounds and an ancient Threshing circle that has also been restored beside the pool.
